On Saturday, the body of an Indian citizen was pulled out from under the rubble of a hotel in Malatya. The Indian Embassy in Turkey has reported that the body of an Indian citizen, identified as Vijay Kumar, has been found days after several earthquakes rocked Turkey. Vijay Kumar was on a business trip when the earthquake struck Turkey and Syria earlier this week.
Huge earthquakes hit Turkey, leaving over 26,000 dead and several thousand injured or displaced. The first earthquake near Gaziantep near the Syrian border had a magnitude of 7.8. The second occurred nine hours later and measured 7.6 on the Richter scale.
The earthquake has wreaked havoc in Turkey and Syria, and search and rescue operations continue unabated since the tragedy struck both nations. Two children have been pulled out alive after being trapped under the rubble of their home, without food or water and in the freezing cold, for five days in earthquake-hit Turkey. Doctors, paramedics, security forces and rescue teams are working day after day in Kahramanmaras, one of the worst affected cities by the earthquake, to provide immediate treatment to survivors in harsh weather conditions.
